Today I am exhausted.
Through no fault of anybody's; I've had the Panamanian Death Flu for the last few days and far, *far* too much to do. I still have a crunkload of Spanish homework that really *really* needs to be completed by Monday morning, and it is only my last remaining vestige of self-respect, o friendslist, that is preventing me from begging one of you to write my composition for me.
However! There are lovely people from across the border about, and that's always nice. So in that optimistic vein, I will...um...do
marej's meme on the 5 Things I Find Romantic:
1) That moment of watching somebody do something perfectly mundane -- cutting up and eating an apple, writing a letter, making a cup of tea -- and the realization of love that comes with it, that feeling that seeing that person so unguarded is something special and precious.
2)

the noir conventions, and that is just so perfect. Rain, and cigarettes, and liquor; wounded people who scorn any actual declarations of love because that's too close to admitting loneliness but who somehow manage to wind up crashing into each other.
3) Established relationships. There's an intimacy to easy, knowing banter that's madly romantic -- Nick & Nora Charles are the prototype for this. But even if it's not in a witty 30s b&w flavour, I like Scott Summers & Jean Grey, James & Lily Potter, Frank & Mary Pembleton, Homer & Marge Simpson. Seeing real, enduring closeness and affection.
4) The friendship leading up to the moment of truth. This can be done really lamely, or it can be done really beautifully; some good ones are Barney & Valancy in
The Blue Castle, Kenji and Noi in
The Last Life in the Universe, and Gene & Judy in
For Me and My Gal because even though you hope it'll happen, somehow you just never see it coming and everybody is blindsided.
5) Code. Stuff that doesn't need to be explained, or unspoken communication...like Lorelai getting her thousand yellow daisies, or Brian saving a drawer for Justin; Bick and Leslie at the wedding in
Giant, or Captain Von Trapp and Maria dancing the Laendler. (And believe me, it was only a massive effort of willpower that kept "SINGING" off this list.)
Also, I sound so fucking old-fashioned. Good Lord!
Oh, and just to sign off on an Unpopular Fandom Opinion: those two geekboys in Supernatural? I hated them. I hated them when they were the Trio on Buffy, and I hate them on spn. I don't ever want to see them AGAIN.
