starring fyvush finkel as krusty the clown
So handyhunter did this thing where she recast a bunch of Marvel characters with actors of colour, and [be warned, it's image-heavy!] wow, did I ever like that idea.
EDIT: Now that this post is being linked places (hi there!), I'd like to add a little background and context.
The point of this meme is NOT to insinuate that white characters are the only interesting or important ones. It it NOT to mean that diversity in media is as simple as "browning it up" a little. It is NOT to devalue the chromatic characters who already exist and are awesome.
What this meme is for is to disturb the idea that white actors can and should play not only canonically white characters, but also canonically chromatic characters. It is to offer imagination fodder that also issues a challenge: movies already want us to re-imagine chromatic stories as white ones, so why shouldn't we re-imagine white stories as chromatic ones? It is, not least of all, to have some fun imagining people who look like us in these iconic roles.
crossedwires -- who started the meme -- and a number of the participants have been involved in a sprawling and ongoing discussion regarding whitewashing of characters and representation in media, so this is hardly an exercise in thoughtless "colourblind casting". Frivolous, maybe, but goddamn, can't anti-oppression work be pleasurable *sometimes*?
That said -- on to the casting!

er. ken watanabe and andre braugher as bffs-turned-enemies? yes please.

i didn't want to put salma wearing mexican clothes as her headshot for "alien queen", but y'all, it's super-hard finding a photo of salma that's not all tits ahoy.

aamir khan is kind of older than i wanted to cast, but shit, him and indira varma would be so hot, PLUS

-- kal penn could be his younger brother, and how awesome is that?

especially if grace park is his mega-powerful and smart girlfriend?

and they had zany adventures with america ferrera the wolf-girl and multiple john chos?

plus one speedy tadanobu asano?

i kind of love the idea of the rock as keisha castle-hughes' dad so much.
every time i watch ugly betty and see vanessa williams i'm like "THIS IS WHAT EMMA IS SUPPOSED TO BE."

if morena baccarin and chiwetel ejiofor were them. how much would i read this comic? i would read the shit out of this comic.

UM AHAHAHAHAH YES O KANYE

except i would want hank to never turn blue and furry and just remain jason momoa au natural.

stephen fung would kick so much ass at this.

rosario dawson would play aged-up illyana, of course, so adam beach could safely be her older brother. even i would like colossus this way.

whip-quick fuzzy blue elf, nicholas tse-style.

omg, jill scott would make the coolest psylocke before the whole silly swapped-for-a-ninja-body thing EVER.

remy always seemed slightly ridiculous for all his charm, and ditto diego luna; aishwarya is not my favourite, but she could handle rogue's scrappiness and her hamminess both.
Only the X-folks, though!
SO MUCH FUN. Everybody should do this! Or at least tell me who I should have cast as Wolverine!
