breakfast

So I wandered out to get a bagel for breakfast, only to find the bagel place closed. Undaunted, I headed up the block to a little cafe and scoped out the offerings. Then the girl who worked there started talking to me, and this is how it went:

CHICK: That's a really nice necklace.
ME: Whu--? Oh, oh yeah--thanks.
CHICK: A lot of nice beads. Colorful!
ME: Uh, yeah. I made it myself.
CHICK (motioning me closer to the counter): Let me see!
ME (leaning over): 'Kay.

CHICK twirls my necklace for a bit before I take it off and lay it on the counter. CHICK picks it up and expounds for a bit on the colors before holding it up again.

ME (reaching for necklace): Thanks...
CHICK: Oh, no--I can do that, please.

CHICK then spends a few minutes trying to attach the half-assed clasp, which was originally cannibalized from another crap necklace. ME leaning awkwardly across the counter with her fingers scrabbling around the back of my neck.

CHICK: Ooh, it's very strong.
ME: Can I have a scone?

Then I walked back to work and wondered if I'd just been hit on, or if she really was that interested in some stranger's bead necklace. It would've been easier to tell if she'd commented on my sweet, sweet ass or something, because I sure as hell didn't win any points with my scintillating conversation.

The scone's good, though.

maggie's movie report

Apart from shopping my sweet, sweet ass around to cafe girls, I've been watching a lot of movies lately. Went to see My Big Fat Greek Wedding yesterday with the Vancouver Posse, and apart from all the glaring at the goddamn party of children behind us (stupid Britney), it was fantastic. Joey did so well, but the good part was that I didn't spend the whole movie wondering when the hell he was gonna be onscreen; I enjoyed the rest of it thoroughly as well.
