this is where i come to cry
Dec. 26th, 2007 08:30 amWhoo, first spate of Yuletide recs!
. the amazing invisible mercury man (i was a teenage quicksilver cowboy) [stephen king - it]: deeply creepifying and tumultuous, both in language and plot. The stuff of nightmares at their very worst.
. the jimmie situation [pulp fiction]: I've never read fic in this fandom, and had no idea what to expect; apparently, the thing to expect is a wholly engaging backstory involving Jules and Jimmie, so slickly written that I was surprised and disappointed to reach the end. And I don't even care about Jimmie!
. rough justice [gosford park]: Robert Parks and Henry Denton, in one brief, sexually-charged and antagonistic flash. Which is to say: WHOO. *fans self*
. once in a blue moon [the blue castle]: I've always wanted more of Barney's POV, of how he felt about Valancy in those first tentative months and in the intimacy of Mistawis. This has the feeling of the book without slavishly copying it, which is an art.
. the fearless moral inventory of milhouse van houten [the simpsons]: omg, y'all. When I dream of Simpsons fic, my dreams run along these lines. There's something about Milhouse (and Bart, for that matter) that's simultaneously ludicrous and horribly sad, and whoever wrote this managed to tap into that undercurrent and write the HELL out've it. Everybody in the comments is saying "this is nothing like the show", but they're wrong; it's EXACTLY like the show, in all the ways that matter.
