Ten Unpopular Fandom Opinions
1. Your favourite pairing is not underrated. Nor is it neglected, marginalized, discriminated against, or in any other way some sort of suffering martyr. Neither is my favourite pairing.
2. People who have no interest in a fandom's canon shouldn't write in that fandom. Other people who should know better shouldn't encourage them.
3. JC is nobody's martyr. Characterizations of him as sweet and hapless and the font of all musical inspiration as well as the victim of all woes are lazy and stupid.
4. We can't all like the Backstreet Boys. *nslash is bigger and will likely continue to be so.
5. Epics are not inherently better than short stories; angst is not inherently better than comedy.
6. Teenies come up with some legitimately brilliant shit and we could stand to be half as boldly creative as they are.
7. Fandom ain't a happy shiny place -- none of them ever were, none of them ever will be. That doesn't somehow mean we can't have fun.
8. Mpreg, incest, underage sex and non-con can all be written really well. And hey, sometimes even when they're not, they're still kinda hot.
9. Writing weirdo pairings just for the sake of being weird/different/outre doesn't make you special, it makes you lonely and sort of lame.
10. This is all just a hobby and they'll never fall in love with any of us.
