Yeah, even not knowing anything, one is generally on the save side to assume that terms that refer to humans as animals aren't compliments. I mean, there are exceptions with some pet names (my dear fluffy-bunny or whatever), but considering that "pig", "bitch", "dog", "rat", "snake", "worm", "cow", "sheep", ... are all used as insults for people, it shouldn't be so hard to guess that combining it with "slum" probably doesn't make "dog" any better.
