did *you* bring us here?

Okay, there were more votes for the LJ Uno extravaganza, so let's go with that!

Here's how it should work:

1) I will post a ficlet.
2) if you feel like continuing it, post your continuation ficlet in your journal, headed with a link back to mine.
3) also, comment to my ficlet with a link to yours.
4) continue as such, with each successive person putting a link back to their origin-ficlet and commenting to the origin-ficlet with a link to their continuation.

This way, anybody who comes in half-way will be able to trace the story forward or back! Also, feel free to switch it up along the way, in different fandoms or genres or whatever. The aim is not so much a cohesive plot as it is a loosely related thread of fiction.

Basically, think of this as a word version of Uno. You can continue in the same fandom; you can ditch the fandom and keep a concept/phrase/character; you can go all meta; you can crossover. But there has to be *some* link between the two!

Now, here's my beginning:
---

When Jack found Hurley and Charlie playing an island version of "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" involving some vicious-looking thorns, an foil package of airplane pretzels (empty, of course) and a tarp stretched taut between two breadfruit trees, he had the inkling that island fever was starting to set in. When Charlie excused himself to go genuflect in front of one of those cheap Virgin Mary statues he'd brought back from somewhere and Hurley peacefully entertained himself in the meantime by braiding his hair into tiny little braids, Jack was pretty sure.

The question was, who should he talk to about it? Jack squinted into the horizon and pondered. Kate popped up in front of him, obstructing his view, and chirped, "Heeeeeey, Jack! You look like something's bugging you!"

"mmmmm," Jack said, irritated. It seemed stupid for him to squint if Kate was standing here shading him from the sun, so he side-stepped her. But she moved again, and he was forced to turn and start walking along the beach. "Whatcha *doin*, Jack?" she whined. "Need some help?"

Sayid wandered across the beach in front of them, shaking his wet hair in the sun until droplets flew from his wild dark curls. Water ran in rivulets down the rich brown of his skin, slipping under the soaking-wet shirt that clung to his chest and the musculature of his back, and...um...Jack shook his head, hard. What was he thinking of again?

Oh, right! Island fever. He pressed his lips together in determination and plowed through the sand towards Sayid.

Huzzah! But baby, would you be okay with unlocking it maybe? So people could continue from it if they like. *g*
