we'll use this special k!

. are you an artist? Like designing logos? Well then head on over to [livejournal.com profile] sarahcascade's journal, because she's looking for somebody to design her film company logo!

. [livejournal.com profile] cimarosa transcribed a fabulous article about the new phase of feminism and how Desperate Housewives is a step down when it comes to strong female characters. I tried watching that show, y'all--I like a lot of the actresses--but it just made me so ANGRY.

. Theresa from The OC actually *is* Indian! I wondered, because her name is totally Indian but she doesn't look it too much. So she's on this famous Numb3rs now? I should try to catch that show sometime. Westcoasters, when is it on? Do we get it in Canada? Learn me!

. the final scene from "se7en", performed by stuffed animals. Takes a minute to load, but worth it! There's sound, so be warned.

The fact that John Doe was a Boobah makes my day complete.

A BOOBAH! That's what those things are called, riiiight! They're creepier in the damn commercials than they were as a serial killer. Because at least Jonh Doe didn't SING. *shudder*

Wow, Miss Theresa from The O.C. is gorgeous! Makes me kinda sorry I didn't watch the show when she was on it.

Hee! She was fantastic, with her husky voice and her straightforwardness and her ACTUAL CHEMISTRY with Ryan Atwood!

Numbers airs on CH (this local channel that's affiliated with global) here, but I don't think you get that channel way out on the west coast. But it is on CBS, so if you get a CBS from the states it's on. Fridays at 10:00. Theresa is beautiful on the show and is smart and you realize that they really made her look dumpy on the OC because she was from Chino. And she's Indian on the Numbers. And she's in love with Charlie (don't believe the incest talk - Charlie and Amita (theresa) are MFEO in the most adorable way possible).

We do get a Global affiliate out here, as well as a CBS, so I shall take a look and see what time it pops up in the listings.

hee hee hee! Also, they had to try and make her look less attractive than Marissa, I guess. Which is like, IMPOSSIBLE.

Hmmm... I liked the article pretty well, and it made a lot of good points, but I'm not so certain of its conclusion. As much as I would like to help, I feel like its going to be women in other countries who will have to make the change for themselves. We can't come in as the "all-knowing liberated western woman" who imparts the knowledge of freedom to the women of the Middle East, especially when those countries hate us anyway. Granted, I WISH we could but I think womens liberation is going to have to come from them by themselves.

hmmmmm, I read it as more of a suggestion of a cooperative effort than Westerners going in there to fix everything up. Maybe the author's pushing for us to be better informed and willing to help by getting others informed and involved? I'm certain there are ways to support feminism in developing nations that don't require us to hand down the law, as it were. *g*

Hello, an Indian name always belongs to an Indian! Also, she looks so obviously part Indian, are you kidding me? The hair, the eyes, the skin tone -- don't make me send you back to Indian recognition camp!

I'm very happy that she's actually playing an Indian on Numb3rs, even as I am slightly conflicted that they gave the part to someone who can pass instead of someone who is Indian like whoa. But it's a baby step. Oh, and you should watch the show, b/c it's good, and the incest rumors are true.

Exactly! You know, I'm just pleased they actually decided to have a South Asian character, even if like she's in the most stereotypical situation ever (hello already engaged in an arranged marriage, even if she can't pronounce Madras and she's from Madras oh well). And hey, she's hot. I feel like anyone giving us South Asian girls good promo is okay.

[identity profile] navia.livejournal.com 2005-04-08 07:41 am (UTC)(link)

Heh. She's got a heavy valley girl accent that interferes with her English as well.

Yeah. The betrothal was overboard. I wonder if we'll ever see Amita's parents. Was the implication that they're in India? She obviously grew up in the States, so it wouldn't be realistic if they had just shipped her off as a small child. It wouldn't be realistic if they'd moved back to India once she was out of the house, either. Maybe it's best they don't attempt that part of her story.

ahahahaha! I totally fell down on the Indian recognition. It's the half-ness that throws me! I have cousins who are half-German too and they don't look Indian to me either. I clearly lack deeper perception!

even as I am slightly conflicted that they gave the part to someone who can pass instead of someone who is Indian like whoa

True, true. But like you say--baby steps. The last time I watched a show with an Indian character it was Homicide, and Sarita Choudhury was a medical examiner, and she was fantastic. Too bad the show got cancelled so soon after.

Hey! Thanks for the pimpage!

Yeah, we get Numbers. It's really good and I watched the first 3 episodes but then I got busy with film stuff. I believe it's on Friday nights at 9 or 10 on the CBS affiliate, which is channel 13 or something... Global, I think.
