So the only thing giving me small comfort in the face of a Stephen Harper Conservative majority government is the fact that every Canadian in my circle who's posting is sharing the same horror that I am.

Ugh, ugh, ugh. Sometimes this country frustrates me beyond measure.

I know. Exactly. Ai yai yai yai yai. Fuck it, I'm getting drunk.

On the bright side, my ex-boss lost his seat. Schadenfreude rules.

My friend suggested that a Harper majority will likely lead to a Harper defeat in the next election?

But apparently voter turnout was even worse than last time. :(

I'm so sorry to hear that. :(

But!! NDP opposition!! Something new is actually happening! And the first Green seat in North America!!

S-silver lining?

That's how I'm trying to process this too. Instead of Liberals bending over for Tory policy, NDP (I HOPE OH MAN I HOPE SO MUCH) can oppose Harper's jackassery. Right? And Green Party seat = yay?

This country is now as bi-partisan as the States. Like that was any surprise, right?

Hear, hear. It's the same on my RL facebook network. Pretty much everyone I know is devastated and mystified. We are all wondering (a) who are these people who voted Conservative and how can they think that was a good idea? and (b) who are these people (apparently almost half the eligible population) who did not vote at ALL?!

Argh, argh, argh.

My mom and aunt both voted Conservative, when usually they vote Liberal. Our riding just went Conservative after being Liberal since 1988. It's almost entirely because they don't like Michael Ignatieff and prefer Harper over him.

It also probably didn't help that some of us (like me) voted NDP instead of Liberal this time.

Unfortunately, most Western countries are going right these days...Even the great 'liberal' countries in Europe are seeing a drift right, sadly. :|

Is is so aggravating - there was one "Yay, Harper!" post on my Facebook, and dozens of, "What? NO!" reactions. It makes me feel like there is a huge unknown THEM in my country, and I don't get it.

Of the three people I actually know who voted Conservative, one is actually Conservative, one was voting anti-Ignatieff, and one was voting anti-Layton. My riding went 44% Conservative (incumbent), 25% Liberal, and 24% NDP.

It's all very awful. D:

UGH THIS SO MUCH.

Also, voting in Stephen Harper's riding is so depressing. I do, every time, but the futility doesn't make it any fun.

I don't know who the fuck these people are who vote Conservative (I lie -- I do -- I'm related to several of them), but at this point, I am so angry that I would like to line them all up and punch each and every one of them in the face. Who thought this was a good idea?!?!

Not that it would have made any difference, because both of my potential ridings are leftist strongholds anyway (the one where I actually live [when at home] is Bob Rae's riding, and the one where my permanent address is just kicked out the Lib incumbent for the NDP), but this bullshit makes me especially angry that I wasn't able to vote this time around.

[personal profile] marej 2011-05-03 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
my idiot riding voted Conservative. You know, the shittiest thing is that if the vote didn't split, we could've avoided that. How much you wanna bet that if Bob Rae was leading the Lib it would've gone his way? no, seriously, HOW MUCH.

I find that I'm basically angry with EVERYBODY right now. Idiots (IDIOTS!) who voted Conservative. People, (in an infinitely smaller degree, mind) who in their infinite wisdom split the vote and forgot about voting strategically in ridings with close races. Fucking Ignatieff! (the list goes on and on)
