"vampire" is not a career choice

Okay, I don't care about all the haters when it comes to this outfit of Michelle Obama's; shit, that is how you wear a cardigan when you want it nipped in at the waist but it needs to fit over your hips and ass. To hell with alla y'all!! I love it.

Last night we went out for [livejournal.com profile] star_maple's birthday at Vancouver's Most Parasitic Restaurant, and across Davie Street I noticed a new green canopy that proclaimed, "Transylvanian Traditions". !! It's a relatively new bakery boasting Eastern European pastries and whatnot, and boy do I love new bakeries.

Unfortunately it was closed by the time we finished supper, which I suppose is to be expected; Transylvanians have busy night-lives, I understand.

Cardie could stand to be an inch or two longer (it's arguing with the skirt's waistband), but I'm with you. Plus I dig the skirt, and that bright blue is gorgeous on her. She's rocking that New Look silhouette.

She's certainly tall enough to pull off that silhouette! I must say, I like flared skirts myself, and I'm only a couple of inches over five feet. They have such a pleasing *swing* to them.

[identity profile] indirajames.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I love that cardigan. If I wore cardigans I would totally wear it. I love the color combinations, and her skirt too. She wears so many colors, it's so nice to see someone doing so, because seriously, why is everyone so obsessed with beige in America.

And she has hips like mine which is also nice to see. 8)

The colours are FABULOUS! Every time I wear a colour to work, all my co-workers coo and exclaim over it -- you are so right about the predilection toward beige. And black.

Also, I love how there's That Commenter going, "am i the only one who doesn't care what she wears? so much focus on her clothes, *single world-weary teardrop*"

Yes, bb, you are the ONLY ONE. There, feel like enough of a special snowflake yet?

EXACTLY! Madam Kaur there in her fancy sari and Michelle in her blue dress and heels and cardie? My two favourites!! They both have that kind of stylish-yet-approachable look to them, and what's more they look *comfortable*. This is a style trend I want to subscribe to!!

Mrs O is just so totally amazing, that entire pixspam made my day. I especially loved the little victory-fists-pump one and the one right after that with her legs crossed and THOSE PUMPS on display, OMFG. Someone else on my flist was raving about how "statuesque" isn't even the word for her and what an amazing thing it is to have a First Lady who doesn't look like she came out of a Stepford Cookie Cutter.

THOSE PUMPS HOMG. And seriously, I am so happy to see a variation from the skirt-jacket-blouse formula! She looks fresh and alive and wonderful, bless.

You should have gone to Taki's next door - it's much better food without the hype.

I hope the new bakery is run by the people who run Transylvania Flavour (http://www.transylvaniaflavour.com/main/index.htm), which has the best shnitzel this side of Mr.Nerd's Mom's kitchen! Plus YAM PEROGIES!! You should go there one time.

HOLY CHRIST thank you for the restaurant rec! It looks amazing. I am drooling just thinking about it, mmmmmm.

We did go to Taki's! The dude in the article I linked to calls it a parasite on Stephos' turned-away customers, ahahahaha!! I would never stand in the rain for a Greek restaurant in Vancity -- you have to be some kind of fool to do that shit, yo.

The cut of the cardigan makes it obvious that's the way it's supposed to be worn. The first few commenters on that post don't seem to have noticed the irregular cut and I'm not reading the rest of their lame-arse fashion-crippled statements. I suddenly feel like such a fashion wanker except not so much because if I were a real fashion wanker I'd have a link to hand of a model wearing that cardie just like Michelle Obama is wearing it.

Also, she is gorgeous and I love that she wears imaginative and beautiful clothes, not just prim frocks and suits.

[identity profile] kitchendinah.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, people are crazy, and I want that sweater.

I feel vaguely dirty/shallow/wrong for being so interested in her wardrobe choices because ideally my appreciation of her would be based on her past/present/future accomplishments (I do so love an intelligent, outspoken, non-ornamental First Lady,) but I can't help but note and adore most everything she wears.
ext_872: eye with red flower petals as eyelashes (Default)

[identity profile] bossymarmalade.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
That sweater would suit you PERFECTLY. It's almost scary to think how perfect it would be. *g*

Y'know, I am totally enamoured with her clothing too, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that a'tall; her relationship with fashion is clearly a lively and affectionate one, so I feel like focusing on other aspects of her and ignoring that one would be so artificial, y'know?

[identity profile] marej.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
two people can do no wrong, as far as i'm concerned Bitsy and Michelle Obama. why? BECAUSE THEY ARE JUST THAT HOT!

that aside, i just dig the cardigan. and you know what, Michelle moves around, she's animated, clothes shift she is not damn model striking a pose. also, she's JUST THAT HOT.

p.s. i need to renew my lj so i can use "kiss my ass" bitsy icon for this comment.

EXACTLY. Bitsy can show her boobs and flash her cooch all she wants and I'll still love her; Michelle Obama is unlikely to do either of those things so hell, as if I'm gonna complain about her gorgeous, made-for-real-life, awesome clothes!!

The colours are fab! I would have paired a nice shrug with it instead of a cardigan but meh, she's the first lady, yo! She can set her own trends!

And uhnnn talk more about Davie! I haven't been back to Vancouver in over ten years.
ext_872: eye with red flower petals as eyelashes (Default)

[identity profile] bossymarmalade.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! I actually hadn't been on Davie itself since the Wee Sister lived there a few years ago -- it's a little more developed, but still very much the same twee hipsters and snobby queers mixed in with rushing business-folks and lounging, rain-sprinkled kids. More clubs, less fashion boutiques, that Starbucks on Thurlow still going strong; new food places popping up and closing down so one day you can have Persian food and the next visit it's been replaced with authentic Mexican, so nothing you can really complain about.

I kind of love Davie Street, although it's hell for parking (I paid ten dollars for two hours after six, wtf) and I don't get down there much. At least there's always something interesting going on!

[identity profile] violetisblue.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 01:24 am (UTC)(link)

At least it's not the evil outfit that caused her to BREACH SACRED PROTOCOL and touch the Queen!!!!!!!

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
People are silly. That is an awesome outfit, and I covet it muchly. Though she looks way better in it than I ever would. I love that the blues are almost matchy but not quite, except for that stripe of sequins. I love the full skirt and the asymetrical sweater and the bright colors, and I really, really love that it looks hot and yet comfortable. She has the best taste of ever.

Maybe she can bring back comfort as a hot fashion item? Or put it back on the list of things designers consider? I would vote for canonization if she could do that.

I love her clothes generally--they seem like such vivid evidence of her own confidence and taste--and that outfit is no exception. The colors are wonderful on her, and I love the argyle in the sweater.

I'm late in responding to this. :)

I LOVE Michelle Obama's style. I love that she went asymmetric, I love that she didn't wear hose--it's sooo refreshing to see here in conservative DC. She loves color, she's modern with classic touches, she's tall, she shakes things up but still always looks appropriate.

I LOVE HER!

[identity profile] bossymarmalade.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
YES! Stockings are so dreadful; I don't know why they're so insisted-upon by conservative workplaces.

Have you seen how established designers are getting all in a snit (http://www.wwd.com/fashion-news/major-designers-wait-for-first-ladys-call-2090453?src=bblast/040309#/article/fashion-news/major-designers-wait-for-first-ladys-call-2090453?page=2) because M'Obama hasn't come timidly knocking at their doors yet! HAH!
