ta waits for a lady of less discriminatin' tastes
If I ever write a Lynncest story again, I will at some point have Lynn dress up fancy and proudly proclaim that she looks "as classy as that Nikki Newman on The Young and the Restless."
Thoughts like this are about the most exciting thing going on in my life right now, but that's fine; after the exhaustion of this past summer semester (although I acquitted myself decently in the Dreaded Biology with a B+, and thank you to everybody who encouraged me to take it!), I am enjoying the break before I have to go back on the fifth. Fall semester is all gonna be stuff like Sociology and Women's Studies which I should find easier, in sha'allah.
The other day I was reading a post in
amandazillah's journal where she was missing the glory days of popslash, and
ahestele mentioned in a comment "if you think turning people into a girl was wierd you should try throwing vampires, magic, and Wiccan lesbians into the mix" and I instantly thought, wait, there's like a *ton* of popslash stories with those in them! Well, maybe not Wiccan lesbians, but the other two. And they were damn good. Popslash had some of the best au's I've ever come across, largely because the characters were usually pretty recognizable; one could argue that this is because in RPS, there's no tried-and-true canon/characterization, but I'm in about as much mood to debate that as I am to read yet another post about some controversial!new!SGA-fic-critique comm. *g*
To wrap up this rambling and random post, behold my new Gene Kelly icon! Dear lord he was a handsome man; heaven save my heart from the black Irish!

Everyone ought to have a Gene icon. Whatever happened to the one you had with Gene beating on poor little Dean Stockwell?
(I will never understand gioow such an adorable child grew up to be Al. Never.)

I don't knowwwwww!! I was thinking of that one too. It got wiped in one of the many computer crashes I've had, but I am *certain* I must have burned it on a disc somewhere at *some* point. I should look for it, man!

I haven't looked at that stuff in like, forever, and just spent a bit of time re-reading most of it. There are a couple things I like (the Whitlams thing in particular,) a couple I'm not entirely convinced I actually wrote (they don't read like I usually write, you know?) And the rest can go burn. Particualrly the jossed and or schmoopy stuff. Ew! Why do we let ourselves publish some things?
B.) I need to do some capping and base-making. It's been too long since I did that sort of thing. And I have a very shiny copy of the Philadelphia Story that's feeling very neglected.

*fond memories of Y&R*
one of the things that baffled me when I ventured into fandoms post-popslash was how AUs were kind of looked down upon. I remember in particular that a lot of people in lotrps were very anti-wingfic. of course, having read some of them, I can possibly understand why, but still! and there was also the distressing lack of high school!AUs. I think maybe popslash spoiled me.

One of the best things about popslash is that to be in it in the first place, you have to get over yourself and your embarassment. I think that in a lot of ways, that gave us a huge amount of freedom to write whatever the hell we wanted, and fortunately a lot of the writers were damn good!
The fact that I still feel a surge of love looking at that timbertrick icon of yours makes me very happy. *g*

or, say, explaining the concepts of slash/yaoi and spoilers to a dimwitted mob.
why can't we just go back to the good old days of people spending too much money on buying buses to follow tours? *feels old*

AHAAHAHAHAHAHH OMG I had almost FORGOTTEN the fanbus! It only goes to show how fucking insane this fandom is that I should forget such a thing as the fucking FANBUS. Oh LORD.

Maybe you need a little motivation...
Question for you:
What magazine spread had shots of Justin in bed fast asleep?
(need it for "Jarbridge")

You win at the internet. I think we can all pack up and go home now.

I tried my best to get lotrips into the AU thang but it just never seemed to take off. Though, as far as I know, I hold several dubious distinctions in lotrips in regards to AUs.

Man, I miss the veritable AU cornucopia that popslash was too. Crazy good writers with crazy weird ideas and the chops to pull it off, too.

Yes! I know that "crackfic" is all the rage among some people, but calling your fic that implies to me that you don't have the confidence to really CLAIM your nutty idea, y'know? Like, you're so scared that other people will point out its craziness that you hurriedly call it "crackfic" before anybody else can. Popslash has been the fandom that most constantly presents crazy weird ideas with utter satisfaction and aplomb and with no apologies, which really says a lot about the attitude we have about the source material itself. *g*
