bossymarmalade: blue eye with lashes of red flower petals (variety show)

marge, where's that...metal dealy...you use...to dig...food...?

Gah, I'm so tired. Work is tumultuous and I feel like writing a letter to Lynn about it, but things being as they are I'm not sure if that would be seen as inflammatory/smug/whatever. So instead I'll just link to Anna and k8, because they (and [livejournal.com profile] merryish, in the comments) said things that are worth thinking about. Also, if I never see the word "disingenuous" used in relation to fandom behaviour again, it will be too soon.

On a bright note, I have chocolate Corn Pops. I don't know why the hell these were created, but damn, I'm enjoying them while they're still available. mmmmmmm, poppy.

Chocolate Corn Pops? Oh my god. I need to have those. Are they limited edition?

The box tells me that they're "for a limited time," but frankly, I think they're LYING. Still, run out and get some, man! I bought the box on Sunday and by tomorrow, it'll be done. *g*

Would these chocolate Corn Pops be on the same level as the Cocoa Puffs? Is it true that sugar cereal is now widely available in Canada and no longer has to be imported from the States?

*g* No! Cocoa Puffs cut up the roof of my mouth with their clumsy bigness; chocloate Corn Pops are a more manageable size. Cocoa Krispies are the hallowed manna, and we still don't get those here. Curses!!

I wonder if I know someone who could bring some north in a couple of months....

We'll see if the communist grocery store still stocks them...make your Christmas list up...it's coming early!!!

Dude! Disingenuous is like my favorite word, but seriously enough is enough. Next time I'm gonna tm that fucker!

I guess maybe they were trying to prove a point, but maaaaan. That thing needs a serious moratorium. *g*

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2003-09-30 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Did they at least use it correctly? Disingenuous, I mean.

For the most part, I believe they did. Although, it's not a work I use with any frequency, so perhaps I'm the only one who used it incorrectly. *g*

Word! Word, dammit, not "work." Gaaaaaaah.

I think people are using "being disingenuous" as a kinder, gentler, benefit-of-the-doubt replacement for "telling a bald-faced, hypocritical lie." It is getting a little repetitive, but I guess there's something to be said for any and all moves toward civility.

The d-word is one of those words that I always thought was a polite way of impersonating Gollum screaming "WICKED! TRICKSY! FALSE!" in your face. I'm not too comfortable using myself because I always get the feeling that it's one of those words that doesn't mean the same thing to everyone.

I saw it being bandied about this morning and puzzled over it and when [livejournal.com profile] merryish used it in a comment, it jumped out at me and I was trying to be clear on how the word was being used.
Mea culpa, dude. I'd hate to be part of the scratchy sound on a broken record that keeps coming back to cause myself and other people pain. ;)

I love you a lot. "". I don't think I can put into words my vast and sudden love for you. Replace 'polite' with 'patronising' and you have a definition worthy of the OED.

Every time I see the word disingenuous I think mmmm, sexy word. And then it reminds me of Lance and Chris fighting in Haircuts. And then that just equals Lance and Chris having sex. And then I just kinda forget about what I'm actually reading and get very confused because it isn't porn, but it used a word that clearly equals sexsexsexsex!

Okay, /trickyfish mentions now, ignore those parts.
