bossymarmalade: blue eye with lashes of red flower petals (whatever)

quit talking about that, it's boring. you're boring everyone!

So since I have the first and second seasons of Homicide on DVD, I was going to offer my tapes to anybody who wanted them. Then I realized that my tapes have Thormann and any character I found tedious ruthlessly excised from them, and they would be of no use to anybody but me.

Then I decided to watch Bayliss have so-called sex in a cuffoon with she-who-voices Amy Wong on Futurama then hold up a liquor store for eleven cents. And that made me happy, so I stupidly watched Crosetti and naturally bawled when Frank stood honour guard, because, well -- I have a weakness for characters who seem hard-ass and callous, but who are really kind and affectionate on their own terms.

That silly man, and his silly cookies.

Sorry to barge in, but I just have to say that after reading this I have to buy those DVD's. I haven't seen the first few seasons of Homicide since they were first aired here in Sweden, a long, long time ago. And I miss them! I've been waiting, fruitlessly, for some promised re-runs. But, alas, it seems it is not happening. They're too busy showing re-runs of The Macahans...

The DVD's are lovely -- they could stand to have more special features, but at least the picture is crisp and sharp.

If you wanted the first couple of seasons on tape, [livejournal.com profile] lance_nerd has offered to give away hers. And she didn't edit mercilessly like I did. *g*

Thanks for the tip. I live in Sweden though, and my video player doesn't like NTSC-tapes. With or without Thormann. ;) (Although I can't say I share your aversion, so I think I'd prefer the unedited version...)

Also love Frank coming to get Tim and striking the deal and poor Timmy in the security outfit outside the store! Ha! "Crossetti" -- oh god. Such wonderful television.

I know I've said this before, but I'm thankful for your editing skills each and every time I watch the *nsync footage you gave me. I just feel so *safe* knowing that anything annoying or painful will soon disappear. Disturbing fan: "you mean so much to me i want to stuff my pillow with chris's hair can i just come up there and hug chris and get some of it? pleeee--" CUT! Feels like a miracle every last damn time. *g*

*giggle* I actually enjoy watching footage and seeing where I've cut off things I don't like. Especially raving mad teenies; dissing them brings me unexplainable joy. I guess I'm just mean that way. *g*

If you DO know anyone who wants unadulterated (heh) seasons 1 and 2, let me know, because I have more tapes than I can handle, yo!

Sigh. Bayliss. Want to hold him tight.

I love them all so much! Except Bolander. He can go get his head sliced open for all I care. "Big Man", my ass!

season three! coming out soon! for seventy something dollars aaiiieeeeee.

for that price (a hundred bucks list price, i believe) they really should offer some kind of feature. nevertheless, i will of course buy it like a bitch.

I would love Thormannless tapes, except that also excises other characters! dammit! we need some sort of advanced computerized dethormanizer.

advanced computerized dethormanizer

eeeeeeee! That's the coolest thing I've ever heard, aside from when Beth determined that people who hated him should be called the "Thormabominators." Heh!

And, I am gonna buy it like a bitch, too. Waaaah!

[identity profile] lcsbanana.livejournal.com 2003-09-03 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
and his freakish irritating whiny eyeless self shall be called...the THORMINATOR!!!!11111

...okay, funny only to me. He'd make a good mecha though. Thormann, five hundred feet tall and composed of pure titanium, rampaging through Tokyo!!!!

there's possibly a whole lack-of-sleep thing going on over here.

Playing crappy jazz, or maybe just crapping on people!

Whoa, I'd better calm down. I'm getting carried away. *g*

[identity profile] domarzione.livejournal.com 2003-09-03 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Crosetti"... fine television.

Why am I so not surprised that you edited out Officer Thorm... [stopping there so you don't delete the entry for mentioning his name]?

So if this is Season 1 and Season 2, does Homicide: The Phantom Edit stop with the conclusion of Season 5 or Season 6? Expurgated highlights include: Falsone eating a peach. Falsone biting the top off an aspirin bottle. The words "Howard transferred to Fugitive" not appearing in any sequence. Ballard. Billie Lou... oh, we could go on.

*g* I still remember the Christmas letter Thormann sent me. Good times, good times.

Homicide: The Phantom Edit

aaahahah! No, my mad editing skillz continue right down to the end. As the seasons wear on, the episodes get shorter and shorter because there's all that Russert and Gharty & Ballard and Gee Jr. to cut out. In fact, if I were going to record The Movie again, it would probably be pared down to the running time of an ep, what with all the Gee Jr. cavorting that goes on!

Good lord, dear Maggie...this is what I've missed for so darn long!!! And I am still shockingly delighted when I remember about your clever editing skills.

As someone who came late to the game (ie post-stroke) these DVDs are turning the light on for me...they edited out a lot of important, albeit subtle stuff...woo hoo for DVDs, even the ones that cost $100.

I'm working my way through the tapes, and I'm realizing just how much I cut out. It's a wonder I had any grasp of canon at all, man. *g*

[identity profile] rachel-wilder.livejournal.com 2003-09-05 08:50 am (UTC)(link)
Canon? We were supposed to follow canon? Shoot. I missed that memo.

[identity profile] gal-montag.livejournal.com 2003-09-03 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh oh! Where from did you find this thing? And how much did you pay? Because I just got addicted to the show and Court TV took it away from me!!

Well, the Seasons 1 & 2 DVD came out about a month ago, so I was able to find it in the stores and paid around $70 Canadian for it, if I remember correctly. You should be able to find it on amazon.com or really, anywhere that sells DVDs and CDs.

and any character I found tedious ruthlessly excised from them

Haha, I do that all the time. I did it with XF, and eventually ended up with all Mulder. Even poor Scully got the axe.

Bayliss and the sex coffin, Bayliss holding up a liquor store. Oh, man, I loved him so. I physically ache when I think of early Homicide, and how I loved the show with all my being. Ow ow.

I know! It's sort of painful watching them, because then I start getting upset that it's over and that it was treated so badly in its declining years, but I love it SO MUCH. The Best Damn Show on Television, man.
