bossymarmalade: blue eye with lashes of red flower petals (whatever)

arrrr, i don't know what i'm doing

So the Makeup department got a copy of MakeUp Artist magazine in, and it had an article on the makeup in Pirates of the Caribbean, so I thought I'd type up the bit about

"Depp was probably the easiest makeup on the show, reveals Ve. She simple darkened around his eyes, glued braids into his own goatee and had a wig made...They basically kept him as the rugged pretty boy.

Most impressively, Depp went to the dentist and had silver and gold caps put on his own teeth. The gold caps were in three different karats so as to make each one reflect light differently. He originally had them on his front teeth but when the studio saw them they flipped out and asked that he remove them. Depp, the consummate actore and devotee to character that he is, refused to lose them completely and instead compromised by having them moved over to his side teeth."

That crazy fucker.

And now, to eat the Thai mango pudding my sister gave me. mmmmm.

Mango pudding! Mmmm....

Does it have anything coconut-y in it?

I don't think so -- I'm used to a slightly creamier mango pudding at Chinese restaurants, and this one was commercial and came in a wee sealed plastic container. It was stiffer than fresh pudding, but delicious, and tasted sort of like lychee as well. So lovely!

Ah. I'm just used to associating Thai with coconut, heh.

Mango is so. great., though. :)

It was very orange, and I ate it with a long-handled white spoon and now everything around me is fragrant with mangoes and lychees. It's the most wonderful thing ever!

Was there anything in there about what they did to Geoffrey Rush's skin?

Yes, as a matter of fact -- I've gone and retrieved the magazine from the mail to transcribe it just for yoooouuu. *g*

"For the very first test on Geoffrey Rush, Ve used old-age stipple over his entire face to create a more rugged texture. She decided to keep him on the pale side, as opposed to the rest of the pirates who were quite tan and very dirty "because he looked meaner that way." She threw him together using a little of this and a little of that: a stock wig, beard and mustache, extended his eyebrows and glued on a scar that ran from the corner of his eye down to his nose.

RMG colors were very lightly spattered in, and Skin Illustrators painted in little strokes at a time to break up the evenness of the skin and add capillaries. "This film was not so much about make-up," says Ve, "It was all about texture." Director Gore Verbinski loved what she created for Rush so much they ended up using that exact look. Even Ve, a perfectionist to say the least, was satisfied and adds, "It was pretty terrific." To add to the whole effect, Rush grew out his own fingernails to wicked lengths."

there you go! *g*

Oh my goodness, just dangle these things in front of us why don't you? Meanie.

Does this Thai mango pudding of which you speak have a recipie? Or is this a store-bought delectable?

Mmmmmm. One of my favorite things in the worrrrrld is mango and sticky rice and now all I can think about is trying to find some nownownow.

I made mango pudding once from a mix, and that was okay (if a bit watery); however, I did find this (http://chinesefood.about.com/library/blrecipe290.htm) recipe for it and it looks pretty accurate. At dim sum, they don't do the lime juice and sliced mango thing, but they pour a little more evaporated milk over it and it's just lovely.

Sticky rice is so wonderful. My sister and I were watching tv one day and she said out of the blue, "if you had a ball of sticky rice in your palm for me right now, I'd love you forever." Sadly, I didn't. *g*

Mmmm, thank you! That sounds lovely and ridiculously easy to make. Gotta love it. Ooo, I've also got an agar agar pudding type recipe that uses berries. I bet that could totally be modified for mango.

Mmm, pudding and gelatin type foods are perfect for summer.

Yes! And agar agar is so common in Oriental cooking, I'm sure the recipe would work beautifully.
