finland! do your native dance
For anybody interested--the performance evaluation went quite well. Thank you for the good thoughts, sweetlings! *snuggle*
So,
flabbergast and
dreamtoday are asking what we know about Finland and Germany, respectively. And, as I jump at any chance to be taken to task for my cultural ignorance, I have responded lamely to both.
Now, I have a dilemma. Should I ask you guys what you know about Canada? I'm not sure how much of a meme that would be, so instead, I'll go old-skool and ask--What Do YOU Know About Trinidad & Tobago?
The best part? I think all three of our countries were represented in that Simpsons ep with the Model UN. Mine was those horrible twins! Tee!

Thanks, sweetie. *mwah*

The things I have learned about Trinidad since my cousin has been teaching there are these:
- it's hot there
- sunscreen and insect-repellent are insanely expensive
- insect-repellent is important, because there are scary bugs and very few of the windows have screens
- there is a big festival-type-thing sometime soonish (Carnival?) and it involves partying in the streets and very little clothing
I'm sure I know more, but that's what I can come up with off the top of my head. Also, I know nothing about Tobago, so I'm not sure if all of those things apply to both, or just to Trinidad. And clearly, this is all second-hand knowledge filtered through my cousin, so if it's wrong, she is to blame. I am blameless. Blameless and innocent. :)

It's very humid there, and nobody I knew ever wore sunscreen or repellent. And the bugs there can be terrifying. Most of the windows are louvre-type glass slats with no screens.
And also, there is a big festival called Carnival that's coming up before Lent--the partying and half-nekkidness is right on, too. Your cousin has not steered you wrong! And ask her to say hello to my Uncle Lolly and Auntie Doo-Doo. *g*

Because, you see, the only thing I really know about Trinidad & Tobago is that one of Manchester United's former strikers is from Trinidad & Tobago.

And I was all set to impress you with my knowledge of Canadia. pooh. All I know about T&T is that the Carnival in Trinidad kicks major ass and that Tobago was once used as a stopover by pirates. oh, and calypso music. and, umm...your house there was on stilts (at least, I think it was you guys).

-Mounties!
-Still in the Commonwealth
-Quebecoise isn't quite French
-you have Safeway's and those nice apple turnovers they make
-there's a large Chinese/Asian population in...Vancouver? Or somewhere parts west... (My friend Katie's Baptist uncle lives there.)
What I know about Trinidad and Tobago:
-it's in the Caribbean
-the flag is mainly green with some red and stuff (yellow or black?)
-still in the Commonwealth
-some male 100m sprinter from there is really good
-everything I know about Trinidad and Tobago comes from the Commonwealth Games coverage
-is it where Brian Lara (the cricketer) comes from? Or is that somewhere else?
Yeah, so that's it :) Pretty bad.

Everything about Canada is right--I live in Vancouver, and it's a huge Asian population here. Friend Katie's Baptist uncle is on the money. ^_^
Now, the Trinidadian flag is red, white and black--I think you were thinking of the Jamaican flag. And the rest sounds right. I'll trust you on it, because I'm crap when it comes to sports. Lara sounds familiar, though. I'm impressed!

I did try not to think about the Jamaican flag, but obviously it has buried itself in my subconcious. Bad Jamaica. I will remember the Trinidadian flag for another time.
Oh! And Trinidad is called Trinidad because when Colombus or whoever went there, he thought it was three islands from a distance, but it's only one with three big hills. Or mountains, probably. We got told that when they were trying to teach us how in Christianity the Trinity is supposed to be three things that are the same thing really. Religion really is educational :)
