discus stu was talkin' to *you*

Being unemployed is weird. Sometimes I'm perfectly fine and energetic and do stuff that needs to get done, and then sometimes I'm depressed and all I want to do is sleep. Huh. Oh well, I seem to be normalizing now, so yes. Good.

In other news: Troy. I am reserving my movie-that-fucks-with-canon hatred for the hideous horribleness of Constantine and the "Guinevere's a tough warrior woman OMG grrl power YAY!!"...*thing* that is King Arthur, so I was free to like Troy. Which I did. Especially Odysseus, because a) he's Odysseus, b) he's played by Sean Bean, and c) I have happy memories of Homer Simpson playing Odysseus. Remember him crossing the River Styx? Good times, good times.

And randomly, I can't even begin to tell you how much I am in love with these shoes. I saw them in the mall and my heart stopped for a moment. Which is very unusual for me, because I don't feel that strongly about shoes on a regular basis, but, yes. mmmmmmmmm. Someday, my precious.

Sean Bean. The man can do no wrong!!!

Oh God. Okay, when they MENTIONED the River Styx I started totally giggling and I think it was in a serious part and people were looking at me, but ALL I COULD THINK OF was Homer. And Styx. I really wished you were beside me!! ROFL.

$40!! I remember when you could get those for $20 at Woolco. Pennies had bees on them back then...

ALL I COULD THINK OF was Homer. And Styx

ahahahahahah!! I wouldn't mind seeing it yet again, and I noticed you're looking for somebody to go with. We should totally go see it this weekend! And giggle over all the Homer-related parts! And Paris going all Legolas!! hee!!

Pennies had bees on them back then...

Is that true, or are you just teasing me? *g*

They were actually $60 at the store I saw them at. Le sigh!

Thanks to Cathy for reminding me which Styx song was playing when he crossed the River Styx! I'm still giggling :D

Dude, I think me and Twig and Rae are going to an afternoon show downtown on Saturday. I'll make a filter and keep everyone posted! Because yes. Afterwards, I think we should go for MEAT!! Heh.

I also tied an onion to my belt, which was the fashion at the time

AHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHHAH!!!! And turkeys were called "walking birds" and bananas were called "yellow fatty beans"! aahhahahahaah!! Ohhhh, god. *is weak with laughter(

MEAT sounds good. It's been too long. *g*

$60 CA is cheaper than $40 US + $13 US Shipping, though.

If I knew your shoe size, you'd be getting an early birthday present, though. Because shoes rock, and I firmly believe in the value of buying anything that makes your heart thump. Life is too short not to have fabulous footwear.

:)

[identity profile] bossymarmalade.livejournal.com 2004-05-18 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It sure is cheaper. If I don't eat out for a little while or make any frivolous purchases, I might just be able to buy them. And also, I wear my shoes until they have holes in them, so it's not like I'd wear them for the summer and then dump them. Hmmmmm.

If I knew your shoe size, you'd be getting an early birthday present

You sweetheart. I adore you for thinking such a lovely thing. *mwah*

Don't you mean Discus Stu?

[identity profile] cathybites.livejournal.com 2004-05-18 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
Remember him crossing the River Styx?

You're my LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

dude. You know I was reduced to a quivering puddle of fangirl as soon as Bean started speaking. And pretty much stayed that way throughout the whole movie. guh. He was, yes. mmmm...Beanalicious. And, really, I went into the movie expecting it to be pretty much *nothing* like the Iliad and, hey, they kept a few things the same (there was a big wooden horse, and the Greeks won, and...okay, that's about it, and those things weren't even actually in the Iliad, but, anyways), so I was all right with it. Plus, well. Bean in the leather mini-kilt and Bana in the sarong? mmmm...yesssss.

And the only way I would be happy with a remake of The Odyssey sans Bean is if it were Simpsonfied. Which has already been done so, dammit, give me more Odysseus!Bean!

and, yes, those shoes. Me want. Me want lots.

Re: Don't you mean Discus Stu?

[identity profile] bossymarmalade.livejournal.com 2004-05-18 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
You're right, it's Discus Stu! Dammit. I have amended my subject line. *g* This of course means I have to go find where that episode is on my Simpsons tapes, heh!

I made embarassing noises everytime Odysseus was on-screen, man. It was like seeing Gandalf all over again. *g* But Lori was screeching over her beloved Spartans, so I think all-round it turned out okay. BEAN! I love his helmet SO MUCH!!!

[identity profile] stargems.livejournal.com 2004-05-18 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
Those shoes are a steal. So retro and cute. And pink!! You could wear them with some goth gear and have people on the street totally baffled. Of course, the beauty is that they'd look cute with jeans too. ;)

I sometimes wish I lived up there or you lived down here. I do hope the hunt ends soon. Glad to hear there's a bit of stability happening.
ext_872: eye with red flower petals as eyelashes (Default)

[identity profile] bossymarmalade.livejournal.com 2004-05-18 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Those shoes are totally versatile. Plus, PINK! I can't even get over how much I love them.

I sometimes wish I lived up there or you lived down here

Yes. YES. For most people on lj, I'm perfectly content with an online relationship and distance between us (not that I dislike them, but you know what I mean), but with you I really do wish we lived closer. Le sigh! *snug*

[identity profile] callmesandy.livejournal.com 2004-05-18 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
Duuuuuuuuude. Bean! Won me over when I saw the movie. So very much. I was only a mild fan during all three LOTR movies, but as Odysseyeus? Oh, yes. (Also, in the middle of one scene in Troy, I said to Younger, is that Lee Turgensen? WTF? Beecher in Troy?
she said: it's not, idiot. And also, dude, Chris Thormann! Ends up in Troy! AHAHAHAHAHA!

then someone shushed us.)

Also, I've been watching my Gilmore Girls s1 dvds and remembering how much I used to enjoy that show. And thinking of you.

as in:
(on IM) sandy: rory's very upset right now. She needs Justin Timberlake.
sandy: sadly, he's with Hermione.
circusgirl: hee!
sandy: I just said that for two people who aren't even HERE.

Er. (also, any company would be blessed to have someone smart and together like you, man.)

[identity profile] cathybites.livejournal.com 2004-05-18 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
I said to Younger, is that Lee Turgensen? WTF? Beecher in Troy?

You're not the only one who thought that. I was all, 'weh?'

[identity profile] callmesandy.livejournal.com 2004-05-18 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
Standing up there with the King and everything! I hope he had someone to narrate to him what was happening, poor blind Christhormancles.
ext_872: eye with red flower petals as eyelashes (Default)

[identity profile] bossymarmalade.livejournal.com 2004-05-18 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Christhormancles! ahahahahahah! I did not notice any Lee Tergeson lookalike, but you can bet I'll be looking for him the next time I go see the movie, heh.

(on IM) sandy: rory's very upset right now. She needs Justin Timberlake.
sandy: sadly, he's with Hermione.

ahahahah! That's so beautiful, and touching, in its own special Gilmorean way. Because if Justin can't be with Rory, he should be with Hermione. They are definitely the top two Fictional Girlfriends for him. *g*

[identity profile] callmesandy.livejournal.com 2004-05-18 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
The GG dvds are quite nice, btw, though the extras are lame. No commentaries at all. Not a one. Siiiiiigh.

[identity profile] robanybody.livejournal.com 2004-05-18 10:27 am (UTC)(link)
Being unemployed kinda sucks like that. I used to get depressed regularly because I lived in my pajamas and no one wanted to hire me. I so don't want that for you. *hug*

Bean! He really is Britain's living sex bomb because HO-LEE with the hotness. Also, first thought upon hearing his voiceover? BOROMIR! Fandom, thy shame is Minette.

Those shoes are so neat. I think there's a camo version that I'm dying to get.
ext_872: eye with red flower petals as eyelashes (Default)

[identity profile] bossymarmalade.livejournal.com 2004-05-18 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
first thought upon hearing his voiceover? BOROMIR!

ahahahaha! That's exactly what I thought, too. Like, way to rile up the rabid LotR section of your audience right off the bat, Makers of Troy! Oh, he was so perfect for Odysseus I can't even properly make sentences about it. *loves*

I did notice that they had pink camo versions of the sneakers -- those are cute too! We deserve pretty pink sneakers, girlieo.

[identity profile] xphile101.livejournal.com 2004-05-18 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
I can't believe Chucks now cost $40. Wow. I'd die for a pair of PF Flyers. Apparently I had some when I was a kid. They're better than Chucks. ;)

I work with a guy named Chuck Taylor. Makes me snicker every time.
ext_872: eye with red flower petals as eyelashes (Default)

[identity profile] bossymarmalade.livejournal.com 2004-05-18 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
They're pretty damn expensive. I guess the upside of that is that you can wear them constantly and they still look good; my sister wears her black Chucks to bed, practically, and had an icon of them that said "OTP". Heh!

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2004-05-18 10:50 am (UTC)(link)
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! The shoes are amazing! You neeeeed them. Sadly, I can't wear Chucks because there's not enough arch support. But. You need them. Do it for us!
ext_872: eye with red flower petals as eyelashes (Default)

[identity profile] bossymarmalade.livejournal.com 2004-05-18 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Damned lack of arch support!! But I do need those shoes. I need them so baaaaaaad. I think that I shall do a bit of judicious budgeting and some price-comparisons, and then acquire them. Because how can I NOT?!?

[identity profile] visionshadows.livejournal.com 2004-05-18 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
I *have* those shoes. They make me smile happily whenever I wear them. I was going to get plain pink, but then I saw those and I knew they had to be mine. Wonderful, wonderful shoes. :)

And man, I'm glad I'm not the only one who always thinks of Homer as Odysseus when they see Sean Bean in Troy. Because it all comes down to how Homer portrays literary characters. [grins]
ext_872: eye with red flower petals as eyelashes (Default)

[identity profile] bossymarmalade.livejournal.com 2004-05-18 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Plain pink is nice, but the three-tones are sublime. I think you made the right decision. *g*

Because it all comes down to how Homer portrays literary characters

So true! And I kept giggling inappropriately at the Horse, because of course -- whenever people get wood, they'll think of Trojans! ahahahaha!!!

[identity profile] ghettogreta.livejournal.com 2004-05-18 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I used to take or leave Sean Bean. After Troy? Holy hell, the man was hot. HOT. Scorching. Yum. My jaw dropped when he first appeared on the screen. And now? I'll be taking him. Oh yes. Much taking.
ext_872: eye with red flower petals as eyelashes (Default)

[identity profile] bossymarmalade.livejournal.com 2004-05-20 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
I knew a lot of women who fancied Bean back in the "Sharpe" days, and I always wondered what the big deal was. Then Boromir haappened, and I've NEVER LOOKED BACK.

Do you think there's a Bean Turning Point in every woman's life?

[identity profile] gal-montag.livejournal.com 2004-05-18 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Remember him crossing the River Styx?

Best sight gag, ever!

So, that King Arthur thing isn't the *real* story like they're touting it? I wondered about that.
ext_872: eye with red flower petals as eyelashes (Default)

[identity profile] bossymarmalade.livejournal.com 2004-05-20 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
ohdeargodno. I've been obsessively reading Arthur myths since junior high, and in NO WAY is Guenivere supposed to be some rangy wild warrior woman who goes to battle with the boys. I don't know why the hell they're trying to pass it off as something more *real* than the other Arthur legends, because...well, it's just NOT! arrrrggh!!!

...of course, this doesn't mean I won't go see it. Just to hate. *g*

[identity profile] gal-montag.livejournal.com 2004-05-20 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
So I'm going to hate Keira Knightley.

She plays a lot of Mary Sues.
