i just discovered our president elect got an f in second grade gym class!

I came into work late so I could stay home this morning and watch the inauguration. I'm trying to think of what to say, and I can't, and it's because what I feel is so overwhelming.

So let's try this: when I was five years old, my family lived in Downer's Grove, Illinois. We loved it there; my mother still has good friends from the street we lived on. If it weren't for my father's need to change locations to follow the jobs, we wouldn't have moved. I still recall reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in kindergarten.

Today, I can remember how much I loved that flag, loved that neighbourhood, loved the country that I thought was going to be mine. For most of my adult & political life I haven't felt much more than cynicism about that. I certainly don't regret that we moved or that my citizenship is what it is, but I am beyond delighted to feel that love again for my neighbours and the hope that this new administration represents.

... plus I brought Pocky to the office to celebrate. Whoo-hoo! Suck it, Bush & Cheney! Suck it for eternity!!

I can't think of anything eloquent to say so I will just dance instead. :-D

Dances of joy! Dancing Bush and Cheney off the stage and hopefully into a war crimes tribunal!!!

I am, happily, still riding that wave of YAY!

I have no words, just smiles and happy noises. :D

I am with you! Maybe it'll happen soon for us?

I didn't know you were from Illinois.

Well, not *from* so much as I happened to live there for a bit. *g* It was only about a year and a half, but it was the age where I actually started to notice and think about and remember stuff.

Suck it, Bush & Cheney! Suck it for eternity!!

My first thought when I woke up this morning was OMG GEORGE BUSH CAN'T BE PRESIDENT EVER EVER AGAIN--IT'S OVER!!! While I know that so much domestic and international politics is going to be same old, same old in the next 4 years, I also can't help simply feeling that everything is different. Thanks for sharing your good feelings!

HE CAN NEVER DARKEN THE DOOR OF GOVERNMENT AGAIN. My father is convinced that Bush is on his ranch getting drunk like hell and riding his horse around and falling off it. I think that's a fair assumption to make. *g*

i can't wait for Jon Stewart to comment on Cheney's wheelchairing out of White House. I feel no remorse for laughing my ass off.

A whole bunch of us watched it at the office lunch room. I DID NOT CRY! (but I almost did)

It's mean to be happy that somebody hurt themself, but I think all rules of sympathy go out the window when it comes to CHENEY. He's probably gonna spend the rest of his life comparing his throne of genocide/war skulls to Kissinger's.

I TOTALLY CRIED ALL THE WAY THROUGH IT.

I was so moved. I didn't know that it would feel this different to read "President Obama", to have him actually *be* president, instead of president-elect, but it does.

and also: it makes me very happy to have a president who advocates meeting other nations with humility. LIKE WHOA.

It's like this REVOLUTIONARY idea! Which, really, makes it right at home, since America is a revolutionary country at heart. *g*
